Audition Info

(Date change due to venue conflict, was August 14th.)

Performances are planned for December 3, 4, 5, 2021

For those who have not seen or been a part of this, it is a community wide original holiday production, now in it's 15th season. Below is a portion of the press release which includes a synopsis of the story told through dance and drama and information about auditioning:

This enchanting and charming ballet story with original script by local artist Julian Adair is set to the traditional glorious score by Tchaikovsky and told through a wonderful cast of dancers and actors of all ages, from the Omaha Metro Area and beyond.  The production was nominated for two Theatre Arts Guild Awards in 2009. Delightful Secrets of the Nutcracker, a Children’s storybook of the stage production, will be also on sale at the rehearsals and performances. Author, Julian Adair can personalize your book and it makes a great memento and holiday gift.

The Nutcracker story unfolds when Clara’s inquisitive great granddaughter, Marie finds a journal in the attic and asks her grandfather all about her great grandmother’s adventures. E.T.A. Hoffman’s original tale of the King and Queen, their selfish daughter Princess Pearl, an inventive watchmaker named Drosselmeier and his helpful nephew Frederick unfolds. Marie learns how the Rat King’s spell was cast and what must be done to break the dreaded curse. Sword fighting, magic, dancing and merriment ensue. The excitement increases with a surprise ending, inspiring to all.

Nutcracker Delights has also been nominated by the Omaha Entertainment and Arts Awards for Outstanding Dance Event and Outstanding Choreography for 2019.

Auditions/Performances:

  • Ages 5 and older with dance training are welcome to audition (Watch for specific times for Aug 14th)

  • Auditioning does not guarantee a role, but all are encouraged to audition

  • Performers from all over the metro are represented in this production

  • Dance auditions are similar to taking a dance class; wear dance attire and bring lots of enthusiasm

  • Acting roles are also asked to read from the script and sing Silent Night, especially for the "Clara" role, known as Marie in our production

  • Rehearsals are mostly weekly, usually on Saturday afternoons with the exceptions of some roles/characters being rehearsed during the week.

  • Rehearsals begin early to mid September for most roles

  • Theater week, better known as tech week, involves dress rehearsals at the theater the previous 7-9 days, which begins the weekend of Thanksgiving

  • Many roles are double cast (red cast/green cast) and provides opportunities for more performers to participate

  • A production fee to help defray expenses is charged for each performer

  • Great opportunity to perform and be a part of a holiday tradition

  • If your dancer is too young to audition, we encourage you to bring them to see this production, which runs about 90 minutes with an intermission. It is a great way to kick off the holiday season with your family and friends.

We look forward to seeing you this season!
